Founder, Global Chairman and Padma Bhushan Awardee, Lord Swraj Paul speaks about the prime mantra of success.
Gurugram (Jatin/Raja): Lord Swraj Paul is such a great name in the international business world that he has become an inspiration for all. Caparo Founder and Global Chairman Padma Bhushan Awardee Lord Swaraj Paul became a businessman after completing his higher education as a Mechanical Engineer. Today the whole world recognizes his talent. Lord Swraj Paul is such a great personality, whose biography is no less than an inspiration. Even at the age of 93, he remains completely energetic and enthusiastic about his work.
During his recent visit to India from London for a few days, interesting facts came to light. Idam Today News Journalist Jatin (Raja) had a special conversation with Lord Swaraj Paul on various aspects of his life.
Let us tell you that Lord Swraj Paul’s father was originally a resident of village Chang in Bhiwani district and mother was a resident of village Charkhi in Dadri. He has not only directly and indirectly provided employment to lakhs of people in the country and abroad but has also worked to enhance India’s reputation across the world.
When Lord Swaraj Paul was asked whether he always wanted to become a mechanical engineer or was his dream something else. He took over his family business after completing his studies, was it his own decision or a compulsion? On this, Lord Paul said that his dream was to do his own business instead of doing a job in mechanical engineering, so it can be said that he always wanted to be involved in self-employment. He said that they were four brothers. In the beginning, he took over the same business which his father had started and due to all the hard work, he has been in this position till date.
In the year 1966, he had to go to London for the treatment of his daughter Ambika Paul. Sadly, after her unfortunate demise, he stayed away from everything for a year and got involved in spirituality. In response to this question, Lord Paul said that he had a deep affection for his daughter, and he was shocked by her death and he it took a year to come out of that shock. After which he got up again and tried to concentrate on his business while controlling himself. He said that difficulties keep coming in life, but that does not mean that one should give up.
He was asked about starting a natural gas tube business. As starting a new business is not so easy, so whether he faced any challenges or problems regarding the financial situation? In response to this question, Lord Swaraj Paul said that there are challenges in every work, but a wise person is the one who knows his conscience and achieves success by overcoming challenges with patience. When he established the natural gas tube business, the biggest problem he faced was financial investment and he had to take a loan of five thousand pounds from a bank, after which he was able to establish his natural gas tube business. He said that every person has to work hard in his life, only then does he get success.
When Lord Swraj Paul was asked to tell in detail about the group Caparo Group, which was established in 1968, Lord Paul said that very few people know the full name of Caparo. He explained the meaning of the name of Caparo, Ca was taken from Cavendish, his friend’s name, Pa taken from Paul and Ro taken from Rothman, a name of an advocate.
On the question of being awarded the Padma Bhushan, Lord Swaraj Paul replied that despite having English citizenship, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in India. This is a matter of great pride for them.
Lord Swraj Paul was asked if there are different types of businesses all over the world today. On whether doing business is easier in India or abroad, Lord Paul replied that difficulties are there in every field, everywhere, but those difficulties can be solved only with patience and restraint. He said that there are stricter rules in foreign countries than in India. He further said that violation of rules in foreign countries can even lead to jail, so in such a situation it can be said that one must work while paying more attention to the rules in foreign countries.
When asked about his favorite place in India, Lord Paul said that he likes to visit Jalandhar again and again. Because his roots relate to Jalandhar, and he feels a sense of belonging there.
When he was asked about his first meeting with his life partner, he told with a smile on his face that he had met his late wife in Kolkata. As soon as he saw her there, he fell in love at first sight and after a few days he even proposed to her. After which a reply came from the front that she would talk to her mother about this and tell him about it, Lord Paul was lucky that his mother also agreed, after which he got married to his first love.
As he is a special identity for the whole world, he was asked whether he wants to do any such work in life which he thinks is yet to be done? On this he said that desires never end, but sometimes people are bound by the circumstances. His desire was to build a medical college in Banaras, but since the Indian bureaucracy did not support him well, he could not build a hospital. After which he gave his charity to the British only.
He was asked if he would like to give the basic mantra of life to our Idam Today News readers, then he said that there is no shortcut to success. The key to success is only honesty and hard work. If a person continues to work with full hard work, honesty and truthfulness, success will kiss his feet.
On the question asked about the new book to be published related to the biography of Lord Swaraj Paul, he said that a book based on his life is going to be published soon, which will tell about his life.
